Hi, I am trying to install a 180 Day trial of Windows Server 2012 x64 on a Dell Poweredge 2850 with a PERC 4e RAID controller. As with most Dell PE servers, you need the Dell Installation and Server management disc before installing the OS, or it will not recognise the RAID volume, or you need a disc/floppy with the driver. Ecs elitegroup support. I have version 5.0 with my Dell Poweredge 2850, which only supports up to Server 2003 on the disc. The latest version I believe is now called Dell OpenManage Server Admin 7.1, and works with Server 2012, however from what I have read, it doesn't work with Dell PowerEdge 2850, or 2950/2950 Gen 3. So I am now stuck on how to get Server 2012 to work on my 2850. Am I going to have to fork out for new servers, or is there any other way to get it to work? Quick note - as I've seen a few people struggle with this:I was able to install Windows Server 2012 on my PE 2850 with a USB stick containing the RAID driver (Server 2008 X64 version from the Dell website), so that at the point in the install wizard where it tries to list hard disks for you to partition etc. You can 'browse' to your USB stick and load up (in my case PERC 4) drivers.I was UNABLE to do this with R2 version. Poweredge 2850 SpecsWindows Server 2012 R2 gets into a boot-loop. The system would start to boot the installer from the Server 2012 R2 DVD, get to the point where the blue flag appears for about 3-4 seconds, screen goes black and 4 or 5 lines of info flash up too quick read. The server automatically reboots and loops again with precisely the same behaviour. I'm just installing Windows 2012 for the moment and once on I'll then update to R2 manually - hope this helps anyone else in this situation. To pick up where Roy4686 left off, 2012 R2 still gets stuck in boot loop after upgrading from 2012 to 2012 R2 manually within Windows. The server restarts and as he stated, it boots to the little windows blue flag for about 3 - 4 seconds, and then resets into the loop. My test bed was with 2012 and the Windows 2003 Drivers for the Perc 4e/Di controller on a PowerEdge 2800. I am going to get 2012 back up and running, then upgrade the drivers to the Windows 2008 version, then upgrade to R2 within windows and see if that somehow helps. Im having the same issues on a PowerEdge 1950. We purchased a new Dell R720 which came with a Server 2012 R2 x64 Dell branded media cd. I attempted to load my PowerEdge 2950 and it worked flawlessly. I'm trying to use that same CD to install on a Dell PowerEdge 1950 and its hanging, will not see the raid or recognize drivers etc. I downloaded the System Build Utility which supports 2012 x64, but I don't see the option for R2. Im stuck still trying to figure this out and find the correct way to get this OS on this system. Hello Operating system compatibility is going to come down to drivers. The main drivers that you will need to get into the operating system is the RAID controller and chipset. If the OS does not have those two drivers or generic versions that will work then boot cannot occur.
